Kathryn Rees was inspired to play the harp at the age of ten and went on to become a National Eisteddfod winner in both solo and ensemble competitions, and a Finalist in the Rotary Clubs Young Musician of the Year and Texaco Young Musician of Wales. Since graduating with a BMus (Hons) and a Dip ABRSM in performance from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama Kathryn has performed as a soloist at The Royal Festival Hall, Royal Albert Hall and the Houses of Parliament as well as recording for Welsh language and National Television and Radio programs. Following several successful performances for Cor Meibion De Cymru, Kathryn was appointed their Harpist in Residence – a role specially created for her. She has featured on both of their CD’s and regularly performs with them across the country.
When not performing as a soloist Kathryn enjoys rehearsing and performing with other musicians – she particularly enjoys playing within a band for musicals and has appeared at Cardiff’s New Theatre and the Bristol Hippodrome several times. She also enjoys rehearsing and performing as part of her successful flute and harp duo, KaCey. KaCey flute and harp duo have recorded an album and have performed at many prestigious events and venues alongside artists such as Dame Shirley Bassey, Charlotte Church and soprano Katherine Jenkins. They also regularly appear in aid of many high profile and worthy charity causes such as the Noah’s Ark Appeal and The British Heart Foundation. Kathryn also teaches both harp and piano and leads the Cardiff and Vale Music Service Harp Ensemble, a group that has performed in St David’s Hall, the Coal Exchange and at several concerts on two separate occasions in Chicago, USA.
Wherever Kathryn travels she entertains and charms audiences. Whether performing for an intimate dinner for ten people, a solo recital or a gala ball she adapts and personalises her performances to suit each occasion. She has a wide-ranging and exciting repertoire which varies from classical Mozart to lively jazz.
